Swedish pop trio Alcazar reformed recently after a short hiatus and went straight to the final of Sweden's Melodifestivalen at the weekend with new single Blame It On The Disco. Famous internationally for hits such as Crying At The Discotheque and This Is The World We Live in, the band, who currently consist of Andreas Lundstedt, Lina Hedlund and Tess Merkel, are more famous domestically for their entries into the contest. Not A Sinner, Nor A Saint, Alcastar and Stay The Night (one of my favourite songs of all time, fact fans!) all finished top five in the competition. Their 2010 entry Headlines faltered but four years later they're back with a gem. Essentially a brilliant self-parody, borrowing the general vibe and the production from 2009's Stay The Night, it is one of the cheesiest, campest pop songs anybody's ever heard, and that's without even mentioning the energetic, colourful perfomance that saw them arrive to the stage via disco ball. It all begs the question 'is there a happier band than Alcazar?'
UK: Michael Green - Just Get Up And Dance With Me
Emerging British singer/songwriter Michael Green has recently released a music video for his single Just Get Up And Dance With Me. A soulful groove, it harks back to early Lemar or Usher musically and has a fantastic melody that's hard not to fall in love with. Michael's slick delivery of the vocals suggest that the genre-hopping artist, who has also covered Daft Punk's monster smash hit Get Lucky, could be one to watch in the future. US: Anda Volley - Laura Inside The Ghost Machine
Describing herself as an indie rock and electro experimental artist on Twitter, Boston's Anda Volley has a kooky haunting persona that's hard to ignore. Her avant-rock music combines her edgy sound with poetic lyrics and the highlight of her debut album, Inside The Ghost Machine is the similarly titled Laura Inside The Ghost Machine. Hugely melodic and entrancing, the nu-grunge sound reminds me of the lo-fi rock music on the Scott Pilgrim vs. The World soundtrack. Find out more here: http://www.andavolley.com/
